Introduction

Maarten de Mink is a graphic artist with an instantly recognizable style of drawing. In his very characteristic work he carefully combines the abstract with the figurative, creating a fine balance between the two. With these works he aims to tell graphic 'stories' that have a multitude of angles to them, but at the same time, strangely enough, appear very clear-cut.

To achieve this, he combines pictures out of magazines with shapes and figures from his own imagination. His collage-style drawings have been described as 'psychedelic windows into a fractured universe that tastes like Picasso meets Monty Python'. Further keywords to describe his art are 'lively', 'playful' and 'organic but clean'.

Maarten is a self-taught artist who has been drawing ever since he could hold a pen. Most of his work is in black and white. The artist mostly uses waterproof markers along with computers and copymachines to make his drawings.

Maarten de Mink is een grafisch kunstenaar met een duidelijk herkenbare stijl van tekenen. In zijn sterk karakteristieke illustraties combineert hij op nauwgezette wijze het abstracte met het figuratieve om zo tot een mooie balans van vormen te komen. Met zijn werk probeert hij zo een levendig beeld-verhaal te vertellen dat multi-interpretabel is, maar toch helder.

  Om dit te bereiken gebruikt hij afbeeldingen uit tijdschriften, evenals vormen en figuren uit eigen verbeelding. Zijn tekeningen in collage-stijl zijn wel omschreven als 'psychedelische kijkjes in een gefragmenteerd universum dat zich laat beschouwen als een ontmoeting tussen Picasso en Monty Python'. 'Uitbundig', 'speels' en  'organisch maar strak' zijn termen die vaak vallen in beschrijvingen van zijn werk.
    Maarten is een autodidact die al tekent vanaf het moment dat hij schrijfgerei is gaan vasthouden. Het meeste van zijn werk is zwart-wit. De artiest gebruikt voornamelijk watervaste pennen, en maakt ook dankbaar gebruik van computers en kopieerapparaten om tot een eindresultaat te komen.
